The endocrine system refers to how your body sends chemical signals (hormones) between organs and tissues through the blood. Hormones regulate several aspects of our everyday life, whether it is our growth, sleep, temperature regulation, emotions, and glucose levels. Disruption of the endocrine system can be dangerous, as ~10,000 people per year die from complications due to endocrine disorders (Statistics Canada), with the majority of people having complications from diabetes.
Genetic testing has been used to identify endocrine problems to allow the caregivers to identify the Genes associated with endocrine clinical disorders and offer therapeutic guidance, prognostics, family testing, planning & monitoring. (Clin Biochem Rev. 2018 Feb; 39(1): 17–28.)
